Devin Poynter Award 2014 Chamber Scholarship

The 2014 Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship recipient is Devin Poynter.

Devin is the son of Dwight and Carmen of Mt. Vernon. He has been accepted into the EKU Honors Program where he will major in Pre-Pharmacy. He is ranked 29 out of 175 students in the Class of 2014. Devin has completed many hours of community service including his service as an usher at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, member of the youth group and through his own experiences served as a resource to other children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. He is involved with the American Diabetes Association and was selected as a mentor to middle school students who were transitioning to high school as part of the Berea College Gear Up FAST Program, “Families and Schools Together”. In addition, he has been a member of the Rockcastle Bass Fishing Team participating in local, regional and state tournaments.

While Devin’s schedule has been full with academics, service, and extra-curricular activities, he has also been an employee at Rockcastle Regional Hospital serving as an assistant in the business office for the past two years, working after school and during the summer months. He reports daily to the business office where he performs a number of key functions including scanning, computing, and reporting of bad debt for cost reports. Nick Bastin of Rockcastle Regional shared “Devin has proven to be a very dependable, focused individual who values teamwork and a strong work ethic. He performs at a high level and has earned a worthy respect from his peers and colleagues.”
