The Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce held their monthly business meeting on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the John Lair Home in Renfro Valley. The chamber welcomed Congressman Hal Rogers as the Keynote speaker for the meeting.

Congressman Rogers opened with a story that garnered many laughs from the audience. Congressman Rogers quickly moved on to a more serious matter, the economy. During his speech, Congressman Rogers discussed the national debt, unemployment rates, and tax cuts. The Congressman hit on the impact our economy and future of the country has on small businesses like those in Rockcastle County. Congressman Rogers then provided updates and discussed the status of some of the programs he and his staff have implemented in our area, including Operation UNITE Coalition and PRIDE.

The impact of the UNITE Coalition has been witnessed firsthand in Rockcastle County. Congressman Rogers and his staff informed the membership of the success of the UNITE Coalition and some additional resources that are coming to the county in the near future to aid in the voluntary disposal of pills and other drugs. As Congressman Rogers ended his speech, he took the time to recognize members of the UNITE Club that were in attendance at the meeting representing each Rockcastle County School. The end the meeting, Congressman Rogers fielded some questions from those in attendance at the meeting.

The Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We encourage all members to attend and if you have any questions you may contact Derek Adams at the Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce at 606-256-0070 or dadams@rockcastlecountychamber.com.
