The 2015 Chamber of Commerce scholarship was awarded at the Wednesday, May 20th meeting in conjunction with the Rockcastle Kiwanis Club and Cruise in the Valley Car Show Committee. We are excited to announce that this year’s recipient of the scholarship is RCHS Senior Rakhi Patel. After receiving her scholarship, Rakhi read one of her two essays required for the scholarship application.
Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce will be meeting with Rockcastle Kiwanis members on Wednesday, May 20th at Limestone Grille at 12PM. Both organizations will be awarding their scholarships.
Melissa Brock of Rockcastle Hospital spoke at the April 14th Chamber Membership Meeting regarding Relay for Life which is scheduled for Friday, May 15th at the Rockcastle County Middle School. At 7pm she asked that we surround the track to cheer the participants and encourage individuals that are fighting cancer. Most of us have been “touched” by cancer in our families. Please show your support to those who are undergoing treatment, survivors, or those that have lost loved ones by attending or participating.
On Tuesday, March 24th, Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce hosted it’s regular membership meeting at Community Trust Bank. County Judge Executive Doug Bishop, Mayor Mike Bryant, Mayor Walter Cash and Mayor Jason Medley provided an update about Rockcastle County.

Several community members attended the annual Farmers/Businessmen Banquet held on Tuesday, March 17. Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce hosted this year’s event.
The 2014 Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship recipient is Devin Poynter.
Devin is the son of Dwight and Carmen of Mt. Vernon. He has been accepted into the EKU Honors Program where he will major in Pre-Pharmacy. He is ranked 29 out of 175 students in the Class of 2014. Devin has completed many hours of community service including his service as an usher at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, member of the youth group and through his own experiences served as a resource to other children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. He is involved with the American Diabetes Association and was selected as a mentor to middle school students who were transitioning to high school as part of the Berea College Gear Up FAST Program, “Families and Schools Together”. In addition, he has been a member of the Rockcastle Bass Fishing Team participating in local, regional and state tournaments.
While Devin’s schedule has been full with academics, service, and extra-curricular activities, he has also been an employee at Rockcastle Regional Hospital serving as an assistant in the business office for the past two years, working after school and during the summer months. He reports daily to the business office where he performs a number of key functions including scanning, computing, and reporting of bad debt for cost reports. Nick Bastin of Rockcastle Regional shared “Devin has proven to be a very dependable, focused individual who values teamwork and a strong work ethic. He performs at a high level and has earned a worthy respect from his peers and colleagues.”
