The
Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce is supporting the
efforts of the UK Cooperative Extension Agency to aid
the people in Pike County.
On
Saturday, July 17th, areas in Pike County were
devastated by a flood. Records show 6-8 inches of rain
fell in 15-18 minutes. The river rose four feet in a
couple of hours. A lot of them have lost everything
again and don’t even have homes to go back to.
Some of the items needed (but not limited to): diapers,
diaper wipes, feminine products, underclothes (men,
women & children), hygiene products, dish detergent,
fans, garbage bags, brooms, mops, paper plates, shovels,
paper cups, hand sanitizer, paper towels, toilet paper,
shoes.
They do need food but remember a lot of them have no way
of heating food. Also, many have lost vehicles and don’t
have transportation or money to get needed supplies. You
can use your imagination as to what they need. The water
rose so swiftly, many had to flee their homes even
without shoes.
Donations can be dropped off at the Rockcastle County
Extension Office at 150 West Main Street by Tuesday at
10 A.M. and Tom Mills is generously delivering them.
